Epidemiological review of Health of the Population of Dornogobi aimag

Dornogobi aimag locates in the desert steppe region of Mongolia and lists second aimag with largest licenses for mining operating and exploration. At current, aimag has sufficient human resource to provide health care services to local population and it’s infrastructure is increasing from year to year. In the last 5 years, the lowest morbidity cases were registered in 2009 and in 2010 it has increased.

Whereas, in the following years of 2011 and 2012, the trend again went down, but in 2013 it increased from the previous years. At the aimag level, people aged 31-34 years, employed with simple job, and with secondary level of education; and women tend to hospitalize more with average stay of 7.85 days with outcome of getting well. This scenario was similar with national average.

During the last 5 years, 62,484 mortality cases were registered at aimag wide. The highest number of death in 2011, and the lowest in 2009 were recorded accordingly and there was not significant changes in trend. Majority of deceased people were male and dead due to any kind of diseases, and 19.8% of them caused by sudden incidence, or suicide.

Perinatal diseases and infant mortality tend to decrease in Dornogobi aimag. Growth and development of the most of children under 5 years old are consistent to their age average. In 2013, percentage of pregnant women who covered by ANC more than 6 timesduring pregnancy was high in Dornogobi aimag. Dornogobi aimag is one aimags with high occurrence of intestinal infectious diseases. Relatively high number is registered in aimag center than in soums. Thecommunicable diseases have fluctuating tendency in this aimag.

The prevalence fluorosis of Dornogobi aimag is high and it directly correlated with high content of drinking water fluorine level.Arsenic level of 8 wells of Dornogobi aimag or in Zuunbayan, Altanshiree, Urgun, Ikhkhet, Khatanbulag groups in Sainshand soum was determined higher or ranged between 0.005-0.14 mg/L.
